Farmers Applaud Mulyungi Road Launch

MUI BASIN: The Mwingi-Mui road launched by Kitui development icon Gideon Mulyungi yesterday will give a social-economic impetus to thousands of farmers while improving access to regional markets, local media reported on Monday.

The crucial sub-county connector road, that links the vast and marginalized areas of Mui with Mwingi town through Lundi-Miambani-Disese-Kathonzweni and Yoonywe in the coal-rich Mui Basin, will be completed in 4 months at least, engineers on site told MP PRESS
This road is set to give a fresh impetus to the local economy, while ensuring timely transportation of thousands of farmers agricultural produce to County markets, the maestro Wiper Mp told reporters at Lundi market after the launch.

"Everyone in Mwingi Central constituency can attest that almost all the major roads here remain in a dilapidated state after the April floods washed away over 60% of the road network infrastructure" said the firebrand lawmaker whose coal mining human rights defence has received Kitui MPs backing.
Over 10 Kitui County Assembly MCAs and a phalanx of MPs have backed up Gideon Mulyungi as he presses for Mui people rights over the planned coal mining. MP PRESS|FILE
'We as the MCAs are retaliating our earlier call to the Kitui County Government to move expeditiously and start urgent repairs for murrams and culverts before the next rain season" said Kivou MCA Charles Maema speaking to MP PRESSyesterday afternoon.
