'We will not support the said expedition shrouded in mystery and geared towards exploitation of locals; until adequate stakeholders consultation with local leadership, residents and proper public participation, overseen by non-biased environmental experts is done.

'All avenues must exhausted and agreed before our poor people minerals are extracted in a programe of such mega proportions' said the legislator.

' And if Kitui insist on economic evansions, the excavators from Nairobi will not cross Tyaa (sic)' the Wiper Mp said without elaborating.

The Mui community also argued that the government has to respect the rights of the people who have lived on the land for generations, even if they do not have a formal land title.

Since 2007, members Mui community have pushed back against the idea that the government can allow mining operations to occur in their area, without them having a say in it.

They said that they are concerned that mining would lead to displacement, destruction of the environment and their livelihoods.
