NAIROBI, Wednesday--Kitui development icon Hon. Gideon Mulyungi today send his heartfelt condolences to the families and friends who lost their loved ones at the twin Enziu River tragedies, as the wreckage finally surfaced 21 days later.

'Ex-Ps Mulyungi Urgent Pleads for An All New, Modern State-of-the-art Enziu Bridge'



While singling out the efforts of the Insp.Gen of Police Joseph Boinett, the NYS, the National Disaster Management Unit, the Red Cross, the community and all well wishers for their dedication and efforts in retrieving the trapped bodies, the Mp called on the relevant authorities to move swiftly and install an all-new and modern state-of-the-art bridge over the deadly Enziu drift, terming the existing decrepit bridge as poor workmanship, and a deadly death trap.

'Infrastructure PS New Task As Residents Plead With Authorities For Modern Bridge'

In an official letter dated 26th April, the Mp wrote " Ref Nguni Nuu Road (E4199) Project - Loss of Lives at Enziu Drift" while addressing the Principal Secretary Joseph Korir, CBS.

'Mp Mulyungi Laments Insignificant Bitumen Progress By KeRRA on Nguni Nuu Inter-Sub County Road that Serves Thousands'

The Wiper Mp, in the said official letter, faxed to newsrooms, went on lamenting over the poor and 'insignificant progress of bitumen upgrades in Nguni Nuu road construction, under the low volume programme, whilst quoting a KeRRA report dated 4th April'.



The document was partly aimed at bringing national attention to the myriad and sporadic loss lives occasioned by the poor workmanship at the Enxiu River drift, the legislator's letter read in part.

"Better late than never' said Hon. Gideon Mulyungi today while speaking to a local FM station this evening after a platoon of NYS and national agencies involved in the recovery efforts pulled the wreckage of the ill-fated Probox car from the caverns below the Enziu drift.

'Mp Personal Hired Divers, Donated Ksh. 50,000 and held Vigils At Twin Disaster Sites'



In the last three weeks, Kenyans watched in horror as news trickled in from the twin disaster sites while the former Kibaki administration PS rushed to the site four times in two weeks, donating Ksh. 50,000 and hiring private divers from Nairobi to help retrieve trapped bodies.

'Mp Held Vigil, Comforted Disraught, Anguished Families'



"The MP and his Tsunami Rescue team also kept vigil here for hours, accompanied by our Nguni MCA Jeff Kiruru. They were comforting us and our families and friends at the drift, and at Ivuusya dam, with local reporters in tow' said Mutia Mwendwa speaking to MP PRESS after the recovery.

Dr. Gideon Mulyungi, a flamboyant Wiper Mp and a development icon with a popular following in Ukambani, is a global architect and a member of the two oversight commotees-Infrastructure and Investment in the 12th Parliament, Hansard reports.
