Mulyungi Says No To Bows, Arrows Over Mui Coal

MUI BASIN - A villager living along the mineral rich Mui Basin belt today threatened to rally the people to arm themselves with bows and arrows if those intending to commence Mui coal exploitation go ahead and invade their ancestral lands without proper consultations - but the emotional war cry sentiment was quickly stiffled by area Wiper Mp Gideon Mulyungi.

During an the emotional funeral graced by Wiper politicians Hon.Charles Maema (Kivou), area Mp Gideon Mulyungi and a phalanx of county officials, a visibly emotional resident warned the Chinese expedition to Mui Basin to brace itself for an onslaught if push came to shove over the 'gold rush' coal mining.

The mining, being pushed by Kitui in a Gung-ho style, insinuates in part that 'villagers will be send packing in six months, according to a recent report published online.

Let them come. We will take up our poisoned Kamba arrows and bows - ready to defend our ancestral lands, to defend our children inheritance and to defend our grazing lands and even graves if they come calling' said the man at the podium who took the Wiper Mp by surprise.

But when Mwingi Central Mp, who has been advocating for land survey of the mineral rich coal blocks, issuance of title deeds to locals and an all inclusive stakeholder negotiation - and proper compensation - rose to address the mourners present, he dressed down the war cry and instead told the residents to put their trust in him, the Parliament and the concerned State organs.

"There is no need for residents to take up arms, its unlwaful. There is no need for villagers to take bows and arrows while I, as the area Mp, is standing at the forefront, lobbying, fighting and presenting your issues at the Parliamentary level. I will not back down, instead I will soon convene a meeting and take your sentiments to the Cabinet Secretary, to Parliament, and even to the President himself" said area Gideon Mulyungi.

The Wiper development icon also retaliated that he is fully aware that coal mining is a national issue and that the County Government of Kitui is rushing headlong into the issue, without proper consultations with area leaders.

The fiery lawmaker went on questioning the modus operandi, and reasons behind the recent revocations of the earlier licenced companies insuniating that some people including top echelons in Kitui county could be having their 'hands right inside in the cookie jar'

The Mp was speaking yesterday during the solemn funeral of late Pauline Ndinda Mulwa ( a staunch catholic) at Kalitini village, Isekele, Mui in his Mwingi Central constituency.

MCA Charles Maema added that the coal processing factory must be set up in the locality to benefit the youth.
